Graduating In Style

Graduation, as one chapter ends another one begins!

Now that you have your dress or pantsuit ( click here to see my obsession with pants suits) the fun part begins… Accessorizing.

In the decade since I have graduated I learned a great deal more about styling. Here are a few details that will help you sparkle as you walk the stage.

Side note: These tips are not just for grads, they work for any event whether your are a bridesmaid or going to a cocktail party.

The neckline:

Sweetheart: A delicate necklace is a great way to add a little sparkle without taking away from the dress' detail. The best place to add sparkle is your bracelet with a strapless dress.

V-neck: A drop earring is a fantastic way to accessorize your dress. Pair this with a bracelet and you are ready to walk.

High neckline: The necklace is the valedictorian of the accessories for this outfit and there are no boundaries on the type of earrings you chose.

Halter - Bracelets and earrings are the best way to accessories.

Gold, silver or rose gold?

Easy, any and all. The rules about mixing metals are long gone. This allows for so much freedom to create the ideal look to celebrate your graduation in your own way.

Here are some tips and tricks to help you decide what metal to go with. Gold is warming to your outfit while silver will cool an outfit. If you are wearing red or blue try both styles of metals with the dress to see which you like better. Rose gold has a pink hue to it and it mixes amazing with silver. If you are wearing a neutral tone dress like black or white try to add some colour!

Sunnies:

Do not forget a well styled pair of sunglasses! You may not be the only thing that is bright, hopefully the sun will be shinning for your grad photos. A great pair of shades adds cool to your look while protecting your eyes!

Clutches!

This is important so we created a quick bag checklist:

  • does the colour work?

  • does it hold your lipstick, money, ID, and phone?

  • when testing the bag out do you immediately strike a pose?

Okay, that last one is not completely necessary but I cannot be the only one who does that when they are trying out a great bag!

If this is too much styling information and you want some help send me an email at katieh@joydrop.ca and we will schedule a styling appointment!

Congratulations to all the 2019 graduates!!
